Reference Online and In Print

The New Jersey State Library's General Reference Collection focuses on current materials in areas of interest to state government.  Primary subjects include education, business, public and governmental affairs, health, statistics and biographical information.  Resources are in print and eBook format.  Print materials do not circulate.  Reference materials can be searched in the library catalog

Our print collection is greatly enhanced by online access to bibliographic, statistical and full-text databases  covering most subject areas. All databases are accessible from within the Library, and most are available remotely for State Library authorized users.

The New Jersey State Library has a major collection of online reference books and reference databases. Below are links to some of the largest collections.
Visitors to the library have access to a wide variety of electronic databases, including Reference E-Books which can be used onsite; however, remote access to subscription electronic resources is restricted to State Library authorized users: state employees and, unless otherwise noted, Thomas Edison staff and students. Authorized users needing a State Library access card, should complete the appropriate online registration form.
